Frequently Asked Questions
How does this salary calculator work out my take-home pay?
It converts your salary to an annual figure, subtracts pre-tax contributions such as pension or 401(k), applies the current income-tax slabs for your country, then deducts social contributions (National Insurance, FICA, etc.), student loans and any other deductions you enter. What is left is your net, or take-home, pay. All calculations run on our server using the latest published rates — nothing is saved.
Which countries and tax years are supported?
Pakistan (FY 2026-27 and FY 2025-26), the United States (federal tax year 2026), the United Kingdom (2026/27, including Scotland), India (FY 2026-27, new and old regimes), the UAE (no personal income tax), and Saudi Arabia (Saudi GOSI or expat payroll). We update the rates whenever a government announces changes.
What is the difference between gross and net salary?
Gross salary is what your employer agrees to pay before anything is taken out. Net salary, also called take-home pay, is what lands in your bank account after income tax, social security contributions, pension and other deductions.
How is salary tax calculated in Pakistan for 2026-27?
Salaried individuals pay nothing on the first Rs 600,000 a year. Above that the slabs are 1% up to Rs 1.2 million, then Rs 6,000 + 11% up to Rs 2.2 million, Rs 116,000 + 20% up to Rs 3.2 million, Rs 316,000 + 25% up to Rs 4.1 million, Rs 541,000 + 29% up to Rs 5.6 million, Rs 976,000 + 32% up to Rs 7 million, and Rs 1,424,000 + 35% above that. The old 9% surcharge on incomes above Rs 10 million was abolished from 1 July 2026. Your employer withholds the annual tax in monthly instalments.
Does the calculator include state tax and FICA for the US?
Yes. It applies federal brackets and the standard deduction for your filing status, Social Security (6.2% up to the wage base of $184,500), Medicare (1.45%) and the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax where it applies. State and local income tax is a flat percentage you enter, since state rules vary widely.
How do National Insurance and the personal allowance work in the UK?
You pay no income tax on the first £12,570 (the personal allowance), then 20% up to £50,270, 40% up to £125,140 and 45% above. Employee National Insurance is 8% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above. The personal allowance shrinks by £1 for every £2 you earn over £100,000, which creates an effective 60% tax rate in that band. Scotland has its own six income-tax bands, which the calculator applies when you select Scotland.
Should I choose the old or new tax regime in India?
The new regime has lower slab rates, a ₹75,000 standard deduction and a rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free, but allows very few deductions. The old regime has higher rates but lets you claim HRA, Section 80C, 80D, home-loan interest and more. Leave the regime on "Best for me" and add your deductions under the old-regime section — the calculator compares both and shows which leaves more in your pocket.
Does the UAE really have no income tax?
The UAE does not charge personal income tax on employment income, so gross and net pay are the same apart from voluntary or contractual deductions. UAE and GCC nationals contribute 5% to the GPSSA pension. The calculator can also estimate your end-of-service gratuity from your basic salary and years of service.
How does take-home pay work in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia does not charge personal income tax on ordinary employment income. Most foreign expatriate employees have no employee GOSI deductions. Saudi employees generally pay a pension contribution (9% under the previous system or 10% for first-time enrollees from July 2026) plus 0.75% SANED, on GOSI-covered wages up to SAR 45,000/month. Select your insurance status and enter your basic-plus-housing wage for a better estimate.
What does "Take-home → Gross" mode do?
It works backwards. Enter the monthly or yearly net pay you want to receive and the calculator finds the gross salary you would need to negotiate to reach it, after tax and deductions. It is handy when comparing offers or setting a target for a raise.
Are bonuses, allowances and overtime included?
Add an annual bonus and the tool shows exactly how much of it you keep after tax. Allowances, overtime and commissions can be included by adding them to your gross salary. Exempt or partly-exempt allowances (for example some travel or medical allowances) are not modelled separately.
What is the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?
Your effective tax rate is the total tax you pay divided by your gross income. Your marginal rate is the tax on your next unit of income — it is usually higher because tax slabs are progressive. The marginal rate tells you how much of a raise or bonus you will actually keep.
Is my salary data stored or shared?
No. Your figures are sent securely to our server only to perform the calculation and are not saved to a database or shared. The "Share link" button stores your inputs inside the link itself (after the # symbol), so only people you send it to can open the same calculation.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses officially published rates for each country and is designed to match a standard payslip closely. Real payslips can differ because of employer-specific benefits, tax codes, credits, exempt allowances and rounding. Treat the result as a reliable estimate for planning, and confirm important decisions with your payroll team or a qualified tax adviser.
